Music has the power to transform and inspire, but also requires a trained guide who can show the way with humor, patience, and utmost care. The ideal piano teacher becomes a lifelong friend. My lakeview Fairview studio is a lovely setting in which students can flourish while getting to know some of the world's most impactful music. Together we can pave the way for a lifetime of thoughtful music-making.
As a university professor, I have spent my career sharing my love for knowledge. As a musician, I've spent countless hours learning timeless works that inspire and uplift. And as a piano teacher, I've trained in the Suzuki method of instruction, a program that has strengthened generations of children and families through music.
"Music exists for the purpose of growing an admirable heart."
--Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
Learning a musical instrument builds beautiful brains! Music is an international language that transcends words as it brings people together from all over the globe. Through the study of music, children learn problem solving: how to break down a complex whole into its parts and the courage to master each part to conquer the whole. Add to this the acquisition of a new form of expression and cultivation of the skill of listening (and we all know how rare a skill this has become!), and you begin to see the value this kind of education brings to our tech-heavy lives.
The Suzuki Method is built upon the idea that "Every Child Can." Talent is something to be developed, not something that is simply inherent for a privileged few. Just as young children acquire language through listening while it's spoken around them, so can musical skill be developed through listening. Filling our homes with incredible music is one way to usher children into a life of thoughtfulness and reflection. At Shoreline Piano Studio, every child is given the tools to embark on a rich and extraordinary lifelong journey.
